The general requirement For SoftXpand is to use up to date compatible drivers for your motherboard, video cards, and all other devices. And to have your Windows fully updated with all updates offered by Microsoft.
The drivers should be of the manufacturer chipset.
For example:
- Nvidia driver download - http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us.
- ATI driver download - http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx.
- Intel driver download - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx.
If you encounter problems with your system that seem to be related to driver issues such as:
BSOD, Computer freeze, Computer hangs on startup, Computer hangs on SoftXpand exit, Computer restarts unexpectedly, Computer shuts down unexpectedly, etc.
Perform the following steps:
- Remove SoftXpand.
- Remove and update the motherboard drivers.
You can use this utility to clean the USB database:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
Note: If you use this utility to clean all USB device drivers which were inserted on the system, you could lose your own keyboard and mouse connection (if it is USB).
Disconnect and reconnect the USB keyboard and mouse, to reinstall the driver and make it functional. - Remove video card drivers.
- Reinstall the video cards drivers with an up to date driver.
See notes at the bottom of this page. - Make the computer starts and is running properly.
- Extend the desktop to all monitors. Set the desired resolution and frequency rate.
- Test that the video cards are functioniong properly.
Do so by:
Drag an open Window between the extended desktops.
Change resolution and frequency rate of different monitors.
Change the primary monitor. - Install SoftXpand (up to date version).
- Start SoftXpand.
Note: If you are using Nvidia video cards, and still have problems after performing the above steps , make sure that you are not using a driver higher than 182.50. if you do have a higher version driver, remove it and install Nvidia driver 182.50.

Note: if you are using new Nvidia video cards (series 8 and higher) together with old Nvidia cards (series 5000 and lower), and you are having trouble configuring all video cards to work together, use Nvidia 169.21 driver for the old video cards.
