SoftXpand supports Display Link driver 4.6.
With driver 4.6 there are no known issues. It is highly recommended to use 4.6 driver and not 5.X drivers.
Running SoftXpand with Display Link drivers 5.x may result sometimes with some workstations that do not start up properly after SoftXpand is restarted (PC restart, or exit to Windows and start SoftXpand).
In this situation, a workaround will be needed to restore all workstations to proper startup position.
Additionally, after SoftXpand installation, a registry key must be changed in order to make SoftXpand work with the 5.x driver.
The registry key enables the possibility to assign the ‘MiniFrame video display frame buffer driver’ as primary display monitor, which is a dangerous situation (by default, the MiniFrame frame buffer driver cannot be assigned as primary monitor) because if by mistake, a user will assign the virtual MiniFrame frame buffer display as primary Windows display (on Windows) he may lose his primary display, and actually, will lose his OS.
Therefore, it is highly recommended not to use Display Link 5.x drivers with SoftXpand.
With Display Link drivers 4.6 there are no such limitations or workarounds.
This document describes the registry change required, and how to solve display location issue, in case not all Display link monitors start up properly.
Registry key change required at the end of SoftXpand installation:
Using Display Link driver version 5.x requires the following registry change after SoftXpand installation setup:
Before the SoftXpand installation wizard finishes uncheck the ‘Launch SoftXpand now’ check box, so that the PC will not reboot immediately after setup.

Open the registry at this path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\MfOsGinaParam
Change the value of LockMfFramebufferDrv from ‘0’ to ‘1’.
Restart the PC and let SoftXpand start.
Known issue - SoftXpand is started but not all Display Link workstations have started:
In some cases, after SoftXpand is started, not all Display Link monitors startup properly, and no SoftXpand logon dialog appears on screen. Only wallpaper is displayed.
The monitor connected to a Native video card (ATI, Nvidia or Intel), is started properly.
Follow these steps in order to resolve the problem:
From the Native workstation that started properly, Exit SoftXpand to Windows.
Logon to Windows with an administrative user.
Open the Display properties. Go to ‘Settings’ tab.
You will see that the displays are not aligned in one organized row.
It will look something like this example:

Align all Displays in one organized row.
so it will look like this example:

Click OK.
Start SoftXpand.
