This document will explain how to install and run SoftXpand logger utility which will generate logs of SoftXpand activity.

The SoftXpand logger will monitor issues such as:

  1. After SoftXpand installation – SoftXpand does not start as it should.
    Not all workstations start; SoftXpand does not exit properly etc.
  2. Specific actions do not function properly – such as: assigning devices, devices get unassigned without any obvious reason, etc.

Use the SoftXpand logger to monitor the problem you are experiencing.

Start the SoftXpand logger as described below:

In order to install SoftXpand logger and generate the log file perform the following steps:

  1. Make sure SoftXpand is installed on your computer.
  2. Logon (to Windows or to SoftXpand workstation) with an administrative user.
  3. Close any firewall you have on the computer.
  4. Download SoftXpand logger from here.
    Run the file and extract to:
    C:\Program Files\Miniframe\SoftXpand\ (%SxPath%).
  5. Double click the file C:\Program Files\Miniframe\SoftXpand\SoftXpandLogs.exe.
  6. Choose the directory to where the log file will be saved and click ‘On’.
    It is recommended to choose a simple path such as: C:\SoftXpand.log.



    From this point the SoftXpand logger will begin monitoring the system.
  7. Repeat the steps that do not function properly.
  8. Once finished – close the monitoring tool.
    Do so by opening the file:
    C:\Program Files\Miniframe\SoftXpand\SoftXpandLogger.exe
    and click ‘off’.
  9. Send the log file to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
    Note: if you cannot copy the file, it’s because the SoftXpand logger is still running and the file is in use.

Very important note:

After you finish performing the log file – close the SoftXpand logger tool. If you forget to close the logger, the log file will get bigger and bigger on your HDD.

The logger consumes computer resources which will affect performance in the long run.

So make sure you close the SoftXpand logger once you finish monitoring SoftXpand.

Do not run the SoftXpand logger more than 2 hours.

Include the following information is the email:

  1. SoftXpand version.
  2. SoftXpand serial number.
  3. SoftXpand log file: SoftXpand.log.
  4. Description of the problem which was monitored.
  5. Any other information you think is relevant to the problem (Windows XP Service Pack version, hardware specification etc).
