In SoftXpand there are several ways to manage the Host’s shut down options.

You can use SoftXpand integrated features for shutting down, or for advanced use, you can schedule shut down, shut down remotely or by command line.

The following ways, explain SoftXpand 3 shut down options:


Using the default Exit button behavior and then exit to Windows:

By default, the SoftXpand Exit button is configured to close all SoftXpand workstations and exit to Windows.

From Windows the PC can be shut down.

Note: For security reasons the exit button is protected with a password.

Configuring the Exit button to shut down the Host:

Using the Admin Tools- settings tab, the Exit button can be configured to shut down the Host. As a result, every time the SoftXpand exit button is used, the PC will shut down.

Note: For security reasons the exit button is protected with a password.

Configure shut down after idle time:

Using the Admin Tools- settings tab, a shutdown of the Host can be configured after a certain amount of idle time.

Refer to ‘Settings’ tab for more information.


Shut down the Host using command line:

option1:

We created a command line tool that enables you to exit SoftXpand.

You can download shutdown command to SoftXpand from here,

Extract mfstopper.exe to %windir%

How to use it (use the command in case sensitive):

MfStopper.exe [{/E}{/R}{/S}{/A}] [“password”]

/E – Exit to windows

/R – Restart windows

/S – Shutdown windows

/A - In accordance with the value of variable in registry:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Miniframe\SoftXpand\Host\ExitButtonAction

Option 2:

Using a third party utility (freeware) – PowerOff 3.0, the Host can be shut down using a command line.

The following steps are to install and configure the poweroff service on the SoftXpand Host:

  • Download PowerOff 3.0 from this link: http://users.telenet.be/jbosman/poweroff/poweroff.htm.
  • Unzip the poweroff.exe file into %systemroot%\system32\.
  • Double click the file %systemroot%\system32\poweroff.exe.
  • Check the “Allow remote control” checkbox.

  • Click on the settings tab next to it.
  • Set a password. (i.e. 123) and click OK.|
    Leave port as default.

  • Go to the service tab and click on “Create Service” and then “save settings to service”.

  • Run the following command for shutting down the local Host:
    poweroff shutdown -remote %computername% -password 123
    Note
    : Password 123 is an example only.

Shut down the Host from remote:

  • Install and configure poweroff service as in section 4 on the local Host.
  • On a remote Host - Run the command:
    poweroff shutdown -remote [computername] -password 123
    Note: Password 123 is an example only, [computername] = computer name of the remote Host that you wish to shut down.

Schedule a time to shut down Host:

  • Create a batch file consisting of the following command:
    poweroff shutdown -remote %computername% -password 123
    Note: Password 123 is an example only.
  • Schedule the batch file to run on any given time using Windows scheduler (or any other scheduler you work with).

Control Windows power button:

Using the Control panel – power options – advanced tab – power buttons, you can configure the “press the power button” behavior.

By this setting you can prevent a user to shut down the Host using the power button.
