This document explains the change of the Windows registry value to support the use of blank passwords upon logon to SoftXpand home.

For your information, a registry setting related to Group Policy limitations on use of Remote Desktop connections with user accounts with blank passwords are changed by SoftXpand Home under the following circumstances:

Case

Group policy behavior

Install SoftXpand Home

Installing SoftXpand Home changes the registry key related to Blank password login to enable blank password use so that users can logon to SoftXpand using blank passwords.

Uninstall SoftXpand Home

Uninstalling SoftXpand Home will change the registry key related to Blank passwords back to the initial setting in effect prior to the installation of SoftXpand Home.

Upgrading SoftXpand Home

When Upgrading SoftXpand Home to a newer version of SoftXpand Home the setting will remain unchanged.


Note: The specific registry key is:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LimitBlankPasswordUse

If the changes made by SoftXpand are unacceptable, you can continue to limit (not allow) logon to Remote Desktop sessions (including SoftXpand Home) by setting the value of the above registry key to 1.
